Under Michigan law, in accordance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act, a homeowners association acting as a public body must maintain minutes of each meeting that clearly document the date, time, and location of the meeting, as well as the members present and absent. The minutes must include all decisions made during meetings open to the public, the purpose or purposes for which any closed session is held, and a record of all roll call votes. These minutes must be reviewed at the next meeting, where any necessary corrections are made, and the corrected version must reflect both the original entry and the revision. As public records, the minutes must be made available for public inspection at the address designated in posted notices, and copies must be provided at a reasonable cost. Additionally, proposed minutes must be made available within eight (8) business days following the meeting, and approved minutes must be made available within five (5) business days after the meeting at which they are approved.
